Parenting, under any circumstance is a challenge. Children do not come with operating manuals, and most parents rely on their own childhood experiences to make their own parenting decisions. There has however, been a good deal of research on how children learn and internalize the experiences of their own childhoods, and this information can be very valuable in the practice of being a parent.
When one adds the complications of modern life, the high rate of divorce and the problem of parental alienation, understanding principles of healthy parenting has even greater importance. This course provides an overview and a foundation of understanding that can be applied to a wide variety of specific circumstances which are explored in detail in other courses.
